“YE WO KROM” GOES TO CHURCH

‘Ye wo krom’ goes to church

‘Ye wo krom’ a day to day term in Ghana has broken its terrain. It has moved into the church. Ye wo krom which literally means -we’re in town is a statement used to depict the act of being civilized or being modern.
This term has taken over the nation as politicians, traders, professional workers, teachers, students and now the church has embraced it beautifully.
From the camp of young musician Atom comes Ye wo krom. Atom is known to do secular music, a more spiritual Christian would say ‘worldly song’. In Ghana and in most part of the world, a worldly song cannot be sung in the church.
But the term ‘Ye wo krom’ captioned as the title for Atom’s hit track is now a stock in the church.
Pastors use this term in their preachings and sermons. The congregation shouts it when the pastor says something that excites them. Recently, a highly controversial pastor Bishop Daniel Obinim had his church band and congregation hailing him with the hit song “Ye wo krom”. What amazes me is the instrumentalist who play the song to welcome pastors to the pulpit. You can hardly resist the beat.
